Alternative perspectives

A keen photographer in my spare time, some of the images I create provide alternative perspectives on ordinary subjects (like this sunflower, taken using an InfraRed filter), enabling the viewer to see the world in a different light. This relates to how I often work with clients, challenging perceptions, offering alternative ways of seeing their situations and highlighting possibilities that they may not have previously considered.

While I take photos, I feel calm and in a state of flow. It's funny where life takes you when you go with the flow.

I'd just completed the Master of Art Therapy course at Western University when I came across an ad to recruit volunteers at Asylum Seekers Centre (ASC) in Newtown. Back in the day, I'd studied Sociology and Human Geography and was very passionate about social causes. Family members also happened to have been refugees from Hungary, so I could really relate to what their lives might have been like, based on the stories I'd heard from my parents. So, I immediately applied for the ASC role and was accepted into the Employment Department, where I worked for several years as a Job Advisor. The idea of using art therapy was always in the back of my mind but, as I mostly live in the moment, decided to learn more about Career Coaching.

Fast forward to 2024, I am now using all of knowledge and skills, running a small business as a Coach specialising in the Career space. I am an accredited Morrisby Career Test Administrator, run the occasional Art for Wellbeing workshop and volunteer as a Grief Counsellor for National Association for Grief and Loss.

So, how do all of these qualifications help you?

Master of Art Therapy

Professionally qualified Art Therapists are mental health professionals who use visual art making processes with clients, enabling them to access and express thoughts and feelings, gain self-awareness and reduce anxiety.  These creative processes are useful for clients who find it difficult to express themselves in words and offer new pathways for exploration, improvements in wellbeing and healing.

Graduate Certificate in Education (Career Development)

Career counsellors take a person-centred approach, working with clients to help them make informed career decisions and become “architects of their own future”.  Practitioners provide clients with the tools for managing career development across their lifetime in ever changing work environments including newly emerging industries.

Morrisby Profile - Certified Administrator

Morrisby assessments enable participants, aged 15 and upwards, to discover strengths and natural aptitudes. Morrisby is an excellent and leading career matching tool which builds a comprehensive personal profile that raises self-awareness, helps identify goals and suggests the best way to achieve these.  Morrisby facilitates the exploration of potential careers and courses that you may not have previously considered. Once you have completed the assessment, you gain lifetime access to the site and can re-take the test at any time. Bonus!

Reach out if you have any more questions, would like to book into either Career Coaching or a Morrisby Career Assessment for you or your child, or interested in doing creative activities to enhance your wellbeing and connect with others.
